The Machame Route — often nicknamed the “Whiskey Route” — ranks among the most scenic and sought-after paths up Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m). Its gradual altitude gain builds in excellent acclimatization, while the trail itself cuts through a striking mix of terrain: dense rainforest, open moorland, alpine desert, and glacial landscape.
Along the way, climbers take in sweeping views of the Shira Plateau, the Barranco Wall, and Kibo Peak before tackling the unforgettable midnight push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the African continent. The route back down follows the Mweka path, rounding out a well-paced, high-success Kilimanjaro climb from start to finish.
