A safari through Tarangire is a journey through changing landscapes. Your game drive may begin among giant baobabs before leading into open savanna, dense acacia woodland, or the green surroundings of Silale Swamp.
At the heart of this ecosystem is the Tarangire River. During the dry months, it becomes an important source of water for wildlife, drawing elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and other animals into the area. Their presence, in turn, attracts predators.

Few sights represent Tarangire more vividly than its enormous baobab trees. Scattered across the park, these distinctive trees rise from the savanna like natural monuments. Their unusual shapes and enormous trunks create one of Tanzania's most recognizable safari landscapes.
Against the morning light or an African sunset, the baobabs transform the landscape into something almost surreal. They also play an important ecological role, providing shelter, food, and nesting opportunities for wildlife.

Tarangire's diverse habitats support a wide variety of wildlife. During the dry season, animals concentrate around water and productive wetlands, while during the rains many species disperse across the wider ecosystem.
Lions & Predators
Lions can be encountered across the park, particularly where concentrations of prey create good hunting opportunities. Leopards and cheetahs may also be seen, although sightings are naturally less predictable.
Giraffes
Giraffes are a common and beautiful sight among Tarangire's acacia woodland, where their height allows them to browse leaves high above many other herbivores.

Large groups of zebra and wildebeest move through the Tarangire ecosystem in response to seasonal rainfall and grazing conditions.
